A 2,081% Weekly Spike Landed Today, and Our System Shrugged

A manga-print Whitebeard multiplied more than twenty times over in a week, and our board still won't call it a buy. Here's why that discipline matters more than the chart.

Some charts do not need commentary, they need context. Edward.Newgate's manga-print OP17-005 is sitting at A$1,724.48 today after a week that saw it climb 2,080.9%. That is not a typo. A card that was trading for pocket change days ago is now a four-figure single, and it happened fast enough to make any collector's stomach drop.

Here's the part that matters more than the number: our system still has it stamped HOLD, not a buy signal. That's the overheating check doing its job. Vertical moves like this get excluded from high-conviction buy flags even when the percentage gain is the biggest we've logged in ages, because parabolic runs are exactly the kind of price action that tends to give back gains just as fast as it made them. It's not that the card is bad, it's that chasing a candle this steep has a rough history in this market. If you already hold a copy, today's print is a nice problem to have. If you don't, the data gives you no reason to feel like you missed a train that is not coming back around.

Today's top moves

Elsewhere the board was calmer but still active. Rocks Pirates jumped 110.9% to A$32.21, a reminder that OP17RE reprints can move just as sharply as chase rares once a set narrative catches on.

Charlotte Pudding's alt art climbed 67.8% this week and 100.5% over the month to A$52.79, a slower burn that's held its stamp through multiple checkpoints rather than spiking on a single day's print run.

Marshall.D.Teach added 61% this week to reach A$41.16. The monthly number, +62.3%, looks tidy on its own, but the path there was not smooth: this card was still stamped SELL_WATCH as recently as late August, and the 30-day momentum reading has gone from negative to over 60% in less than two weeks. That's a genuine reversal, not a slow grind, and it's worth watching whether the next few days hold the gain or give some of it back.

Tony Tony.Chopper's anniversary print quietly gained 59.2% this week to A$14.41, proof that budget cards can still put up big weekly numbers without anyone shouting about it.

The other side of the ledger stayed rough for OP17's early chase cards. Several of the set's biggest names logged further steep weekly losses, so today's fireworks were mostly confined to reprints, alt arts, and one very loud manga print.

What we're watching

Championship 26-27 Finals Season 1 wraps today at BCG Fest Utrecht, the first big OP17-format results feed of the season and the debut event for the new Flame-Flame Fruit trophy tier that started entering supply this week. Treasure Cups in Utrecht and Brisbane run today too, with Brisbane marking the first major Australian event of the OP17 era. Winning decklists and fresh prize-promo supply from weekends like this tend to move whichever leaders and staples show up in them, so do not be surprised if the board looks different by Monday, well after today's manga print has stopped making headlines. Watch the chart, respect the discipline. See you tomorrow.
