A Manga-Print Sabo Just Quadrupled in a Month, and Our System Won't Chase It
Sabo's rare manga print rocketed 122% this week and 316% this month, yet it's still sitting on HOLD, a live example of why we don't reward straight-up spikes.
The number of the day belongs to a card most collectors have not thought about in a while: the manga-print Sabo out of OP13.
It sits at A$16.15 today after climbing 122.2% in the last seven days and a staggering 316.3% over the last thirty. That is not a typo, and it is not a print run error either, it is just what happens when a quiet reprint variant gets rediscovered. And yet our system still has it stamped HOLD, not a buy call. That is by design. Our approach specifically screens out near-vertical spikes like this one, because chasing a card after it has already run this hard has historically been a losing game in this market. The move is real. The chase isn't the play.
Today's top moves
Sabo (manga, OP13-120) leads the board, up 122% this week and over 300% this month, still capped at HOLD on overheating grounds.
Charlotte Pudding's OP11 alt art followed close behind, up 82.4% on the week and now at A$52.44, nearly doubling over the last month.
Kawamatsu's OP12RE base print gained 59.2% this week and 139.4% over thirty days, quietly one of the stronger longer-term climbers on the list.
Rocks Pirates jumped 59.1% this week to A$22.25, a fresh mover with no thirty-day track record to compare against yet.
Captain John rounds out the list, up 55.7% this week to A$21.83, another OP17RE name catching a bid while the set's chase cards keep sliding.
Context matters here too. Rocks Pirates and Captain John are barely off the presses, OP17RE only hit shelves on August 21, so there is no thirty-day baseline to lean on yet for either one. Kawamatsu, by contrast, has been out since August 2025 and is still finding new buyers just over a year later, which says more about durable demand than a fresh-set pop does.
That last point matters. Across the wider OP17 pool today, sell-watch names are still bleeding, several down sharply from their highs, so the strength above is coming from cheaper, overlooked corners of the set rather than the marquee chase cards. Our own backtesting shows accumulate-flagged cards have historically been higher four weeks later about three times out of four, while sell-watch names tend to keep falling. Big green candles feel great to look at, but the flag on the card is still the thing worth trusting.
What we're watching
Whether the bid under Sabo cools now that the move is this loud, or whether manga-print chasers keep buying into a HOLD stamp regardless. And whether OP17RE's cheaper uncommons, Rocks Pirates and Captain John included, keep catching flow while the set's secret-rare chase cards stay under pressure, or whether that rotation fades as fast as it showed up.
