Luffy Nearly Triples in a Month, and the Board Still Says Hold
OP05-119 Luffy is up 167.5% this week and 179.3% this month, yet the stamp is still HOLD. Here is why the shape of a rally matters more than its size, and where the quieter ACCUMULATE cards sit.
Some cards just refuse to slow down. The base OP05-119 Monkey.D.Luffy from Awakening of the New Era is sitting at A$37.08 after a 167.5% jump this week and a 179.3% climb over the month, which means it has nearly tripled since early September. Yet the stamp on it today reads HOLD, the same as it did when it had only doubled. That is the overheating check doing its job. Our system wants a card to have room below its recent peak before it calls anything a buy, and a near-vertical spike simply does not qualify, however good the chart looks in the rearview mirror.
It helps that this is a deep market. Liquidity is rated A, with 788 recorded sales over the last 30 days, so the move is real trading rather than one thin listing being nudged around.
Today's top moves
The reprint, from One Piece Card The Best, is riding the same wave. It is up 96.6% this week to A$28.19 and also sits on HOLD. When a chase card runs, its cheaper siblings tend to follow, and here the two printings are trading within about A$9 of each other.
Charlotte Flampe (the SP from Royal Blood) jumped 80.1% this week to A$70.38. Zoom out, though, and she is still down 22.5% on the month. A hot week does not always erase a rough month, and the board is treating this as a bounce inside a longer slide rather than a fresh trend.
Crocodile's Online Regional 2023 Finalist promo climbed 58.6% to A$228.44. Its 30-day gain is identical to its 7-day gain, which tells you the whole move happened inside the week. Liquidity is rated C and the stamp is HOLD, the same pattern we keep seeing with tournament-pedigree promos: big percentages on small volumes.
The quieter calls
The two cards carrying an ACCUMULATE stamp today are the ones to read more slowly. Rob Lucci's EB02 SP is up 22.7% to A$1,611.21, a smaller move than anything above, yet it is the card the board is more comfortable with. One caution: it logged only a single sale in the last 30 days, so at this price level each trade moves the number noticeably.
Otama's Online Regional 2023 Finalist promo also kept its ACCUMULATE flag, at A$183.46 and up 48.4%. Like the Crocodile, it trades thinly (liquidity C), so treat the headline percentage as a signal worth watching rather than a settled price.
The pattern across today's board is consistent. The loudest spikes get HOLD, and the stamps that lean positive are attached to smaller, steadier moves. That is by design, and it is what the published tier stats are there to grade over time.
What we're watching
Four dates on the calendar are worth keeping in view. The Elbaf Arc Part 2 finale airs on October 10, and arc finales have historically nudged nostalgia demand for early-set singles. The updated Banned and Restricted list takes effect October 12, with OP14-020 Mihawk banned and some Luffy pairings adjusted, which can shuffle demand among leaders. EB-05 arrives on October 30, and OP-18 follows on November 20, when pre-release week has historically softened prior-set singles. We will check in on the Luffy pair in a few days to see whether the rally holds its shape or gives some back. That's the ledger for today.
