Newgate's Manga Print Rockets Past $1,600, and the System Still Won't Chase It
A 2,000% weekly gain landed on the board today, but it's stamped HOLD, not BUY, and that's the real story in a market still working through OP-17 supply.
The manga-print Edward.Newgate now sits at A$1,662.66, up a staggering 2,002.7% on the week. That is not a typo, and it is also not a buy signal in our system. Cards that spike this hard, this fast, get flagged for overheating rather than opportunity: the same logic that keeps us from chasing vertical moves on cheaper cards applies here too, just with more zeros attached. Our backtesting shows dip-buying into this kind of market rarely pays off, so HOLD it stays.
Worth noting: this print sits in our Tier B liquidity band, thinner than the Tier A names below. A 2,000% move on a card that does not trade every day is exactly the kind of print where one or two big sales can distort the whole picture, which is another reason the system is content to watch rather than chase.
What's more telling is how many other big gainers landed in the same HOLD bucket today. Miss Doublefinger (Zala) Full Art is up 71.7% this week and 110.7% over the month, sitting at A$38.40. Belo Betty's alt art climbed 62.7% weekly to A$53.50. Neither gets a green light either, at least not yet.
Today's top moves
Miss Doublefinger (Zala) Full Art: up 71.7% on the week and more than double over 30 days, but the run has outpaced our comfort zone for chasing.
Belo Betty's alt art print gained 62.7% this week, now sitting well above where it started the month.
Rocks Pirates jumped 61.1% this week to A$32.93, a sharp move for a release-event print.
Marshall.D.Teach climbed 55.2% weekly and 62.3% over the month, one of several OP16 names catching a bid.
On the other side, Shiki keeps bleeding, down roughly 72% on the week and still SELL_WATCH after landing there again today.
Zoom out and the board looks split. Our sell list sits at 935 cards today, down from 968 yesterday, a small signal that the worst of the shakeout may be easing. Meanwhile OP17 singles remain the most active liquidity band by sales volume, with plenty of names swinging both directions inside the same 24 hours. The system keeps stamping big movers HOLD rather than BUY when the run looks stretched, and our process leans on that same discipline regardless of how big the headline number gets.
Big swings, disciplined stamps. That's the whole story today.
What we're watching
The OP17 format keeps generating the calendar's biggest catalysts. Treasure Cups land in Hampton, VA and Athens next week, which our data has flagged before as the kind of event that consolidates a meta and puts a bid under whatever leaders and staples come out on top. Bigger still is September 18, when North America's Finals Season 1 runs in Dallas alongside the release of the Set Sail Deck Set SD01, a new entry-level product line that carries real reprint risk for any staple it happens to include. If a card like Rocks Pirates or one of today's OP16 movers turns up in that set, we would expect the kind of price relief that follows a fresh print run, not further chasing.
