Sugar Spikes 88% in a Week, and the Board Still Won't Chase It
A quiet OP10 alt art had one of the loudest weeks on the board and still sits on HOLD, while a thinly traded 2023 regional finalist earns an ACCUMULATE stamp after a single jump.
Sugar doesn't usually make headlines. The OP10 alt art has spent most of its life as a quiet background piece, the kind of card you forget is in your binder until a week like this one. It's up 87.6% in seven days and 134.5% over the last thirty, now sitting at A$50.64.
And yet the board still says HOLD. That isn't an oversight. Sugar actually held an ACCUMULATE stamp earlier this month, back when it was trading around US$17 and climbing steadily. It dropped to HOLD on October 10 as the price started to run, and it has stayed there through a near doubling. The stamp is built to look for room left below a prior peak, so a card that has already moved this far this fast simply doesn't qualify. Sugar had a huge week. That alone doesn't earn it a green light.
It's also worth saying that this move has real depth behind it. Sugar is liquidity tier A with 227 sales in the last 30 days, so the price is being set by plenty of actual transactions rather than one stray listing.
Today's top moves
Sugar leads the board at +87.6% this week, a genuine outlier even among the day's gainers.
Shirahoshi from the CS 26-27 Event Pack jumped 63.1% in seven days to A$88.68. It's a tier A card with 31 sales in 30 days, and a good reminder that tournament promos can keep finding new buyers well into their run.
Lilith climbed 49.4% this week and 84.3% over the month, now at A$29.56, with 476 sales in the past 30 days. That's a slow burn that has finally caught fire, and it's still HOLD.
Sanji from the 2023 Online Regional participant set is up 44.5% to A$81.06. Its weekly and monthly gains are identical, which tells you the whole move happened inside the last seven days.
Crocodile from the 2023 Online Regional finalist set is the one that did earn a promotion today, moving from HOLD to ACCUMULATE. It's up 40.8% on the week and 123.2% over thirty days, now at A$322.61. The honest footnote is that this is a thin market (liquidity tier C). The price sat flat at US$159.50 for days, then stepped to US$224.50 in one jump on October 16. One step in a thinly traded card is a different signal from a steady climb in a busy one, and it deserves to be read that way.
Elsewhere, Vinsmoke Reiju (the US$781 print, A$1,122.73) also crossed into ACCUMULATE after a 35% weekly run.
Two cards, two different stories: one climbing on heavy volume and held back by the stamp's rules, one promoted after a single step on light volume. The data shows both facts at once, and we'd rather show you both than flatter either.
What we're watching
Whether Sugar's price holds as the weekly window rolls forward, since a move this sharp often gives some back before it settles. Whether Crocodile prints a second sale near A$322 or slips back toward its old level. And the calendar ahead: EB-05 lands on October 30, regionals follow in early November, and the OP-18 release event runs from November 13. Each of those can shift attention across the board, and we'll report what the numbers do rather than guess.
Catch you tomorrow.
