Big-Ticket Cards Get the Green Light While the Fast Movers Cool Off
Crocodile and Vegapunk picked up ACCUMULATE stamps after big weekly runs, while Sugar, Lilith and a Sanji promo jumped 44% to 64% and stayed on HOLD. Here is why the Ledger treats them differently.
Today's board had two very different conversations happening at once. A few premium cards climbed double digits this week and still earned a green light. Meanwhile, some of the loudest percentage gainers on the whole sheet got nothing more than a shrug. It is a useful day for understanding what the Ledger's stamps are actually measuring.
Start with the Monkey.D.Luffy secret rare from EB02 (EB02-061).
It is up 22.6% this week and 53.3% over the month, now at A$29.03, and it is still only a HOLD. It trades in deep water, with 551 sales in the last 30 days and an A liquidity tier, so a move like that is a lot of real buyers, and the board still did not stamp it. That tells you the system is not simply chasing green arrows.
Compare that with Crocodile's Online Regional 2023 Finalist promo (OP02-053), now at A$322.61 after a 40.8% weekly jump and a 123.2% climb over 30 days.
That one earned ACCUMULATE. So did the Vegapunk SP print from EB02 (OP07-097), up 25.7% this week to A$1,436.05 after gaining about 34% over the month.
A fair caveat on both: they sit in the C liquidity tier, and Vegapunk logged only 2 sales in 30 days. Thin markets can post a big percentage move on very little trading, so the stamp is worth reading alongside the sales count rather than instead of it.
Today's top moves
- Crocodile (Online Regional 2023 Finalist) rose 40.8% this week to A$322.61 and holds ACCUMULATE.
- Vegapunk's SP print climbed 25.7% to A$1,436.05, also ACCUMULATE.
- Sugar's alt art (OP10-003) is up 64.1% this week and 139.2% over the month to A$51.70, yet it is capped at HOLD.
- Lilith's alt art (OP13-113) gained 48.4% this week and 89.7% over the month to A$30.56, also HOLD.
- Sanji's Online Regional 2023 Participant promo (ST01-004) rose 44.5% to A$81.06, in the same cautious HOLD bucket.
Why the split
The pattern is worth sitting with. The Ledger has an overheating check built in for cheaper, faster-moving singles. Cards that spike hard and fast, with little room left below a prior peak, tend to be held back even when the weekly number looks exciting. The premium cards that cleared the bar today are doing so because the data shows them still trading below where they have been, not just because the chart looks steep.
For context, our published tier stats show the premium-climb group winning about 81% of the time over a 56 day window, against roughly 64% for the plain momentum group. Those are historical results from the Ledger's own backtest, not a promise about any one card.
What we're watching
Whether Sugar and Lilith cool off or hold their gains over the coming days, since both are liquid enough that the next few sessions will tell us a lot. We are also watching Crocodile and Vegapunk for any sign of a real sale at these levels, given how few trades back the current prices. On the calendar, the EB-05 Extra Booster arrives on October 30, followed by OP-18 pre-release week on November 13 and its street date on November 20. Historically, prior-set cards can soften as new sets approach, so we will be tracking how this group behaves into those dates.
