Two Championship Finals a Season Now, and OP-17's Leaders Are Entering the First One Underwater
Bandai's 26-27 season now runs two Championship Finals instead of one, starting with Europe on September 5 and North America on September 18, and all six OP-17 Super Leader alt arts are stamped SELL_WATCH heading into it.
The One Piece Card Game calendar just got busier, and it matters for how collectors should read the next few months of price action.
Bandai's Next Plan stream in June confirmed the biggest structural change to the competitive season since the format moved to OP-17. NA, EU and LatAm now get two Championship Finals per season instead of one. Season 1 lands this month: Europe on September 5-6 in Utrecht, North America on September 18-19 in Dallas. Season 2 follows in January 2027. Oceania still gets a single Finals, set for winter 2027. On top of that, the One Piece Card Game World Finals is breaking away from its usual slot and becoming a standalone event in March 2027, run alongside BANDAI CARD GAMES Fest 26-27, with more invited players from each region than before.
Why does a scheduling change belong in a price piece? Because the old one Finals per season format produced a predictable shape. Competitive staples built demand into a single date, then decayed once results were in and the meta had nothing left to prove. Two Finals means two of those build and decay cycles inside the same season instead of one, and Season 2 is open to every region rather than just NA, EU and LatAm the way Season 1 was. That is a wider field, which means January could carry real weight of its own instead of being an afterthought.
That structural shift is landing at an unusually rough moment for OP-17. Every one of the set's six Super Leader alternate arts is stamped SELL_WATCH right now, and every one of them is down hard on the week.
Monkey.D.Luffy OP17-079 sits at $63.89 (A$89.18 at today's rate), off 71.8% over seven days on 346 recorded sales, the busiest of the six.
Shanks OP17-020 is the hardest hit of the group, down 85.2% to $33.20 (A$46.34).
Rocks.D.Xebec OP17-039 is at $57.92 (A$80.85), down 61.1%. Kaido OP17-058 has fallen 70.9% to $39.27 (A$54.82), though on only 10 recorded sales, thin enough that the number should be read with some caution. Charlotte Linlin OP17-099 and Edward.Newgate OP17-001 round out the pack at $23.20 (A$32.38) and $20.94 (A$29.23), both also down more than 60% on the week.
That is the board these six leaders carry into Utrecht this weekend. Across the whole catalog, sell pressure is still the dominant signal: 927 cards are stamped SELL_WATCH against 513 ACCUMULATE and just 3 BUY_SETUP, the rarest and highest conviction call we issue.
None of this says the leaders are cheap or expensive relative to where they should settle. What it does say is that the market has had almost no positive read on OP-17 since street date, and it is about to get its first real one. A results weekend that finally gives one leader separation from the pack, in either direction, would be the first genuine signal since launch. A weekend that changes nothing would say the format itself, not any single deck, is what is being priced right now.
