The Board Went Risk Off Into OP-17 Launch Weekend
Buy Setup stamps fell from 31 to 3 in a single day, on the exact day English OP-17 pre-release opened. The 26 singles all dropped out. Only sealed product survived, and not one of them on price.
Yesterday the Ledger stamped three Buy Setups. The day before it stamped 31. That is not a rounding error, and it landed on the exact day English OP-17 pre-release events opened.
Here is the run, straight from our daily report totals. Buy Setup went 30, 33, 30, 31, 31 across 16 to 20 August, then 3 on the 21st. Over the same stretch Sell Watch climbed every single day: 698, 718, 717, 733, 762, 791. Accumulate slipped from 583 on the 18th to 541 on the 21st. Friday's Sell Watch count was the highest reading in nine days.
What actually left the board
The interesting part is not the number. It is which stamps disappeared.
On 20 August, 26 of the 31 Buy Setups were singles. Three were booster boxes and two were cases. On 21 August, every one of those 26 singles dropped off. What survived was sealed product and nothing else: two booster boxes and one case.
The One Piece Heroines Edition case out of EB-03 held its stamp at US$3,597.03, about A$5,054 at yesterday's rate of 1.4050. It is not there on momentum. It is flat, up 0.2% over the month and down 0.8% on the week. It is there because live eBay listings fell from 18 to 16 over the month while the price held.
Same shape on the other two. The OP-11 A Fist of Divine Speed booster box sits at US$642.90, about A$903, up 7.9% over 30 days and near flat on the week, with listings down from 188 to 158. The OP-02 Paramount War box is at US$603.37, about A$848, listings down from 142 to 124, with almost no price movement at all.
Three products, one common thread, and the thread is not price. Sellers are withdrawing.
That is worth sitting with. Every single that carried our strongest stamp on Thursday lost it on Friday. What held was the corner of the market where the supply side went quiet.
The set everyone pre-ordered
OP-17 sealed did not help the mood. The World's Strongest Warriors booster box closed Friday at US$332.84, about A$468, down 12.1% on the week and 16.8% over 30 days, stamped Sell Watch on the first day of its own pre-release. The 12 box case is in the same place at US$3,967.84, about A$5,575, down 13.5% on the week.
The one exception is Double Pack Set Vol. 12 Display at US$442.13, about A$621, up 2.4% on the week and 16.4% over the month, and the only OP-17 sealed item carrying Accumulate.
Two honest caveats
First, the Buy Setup count is a young number. It only appears in our daily reports from 13 August, so nine days of it exist. The drop from 31 to 3 is real and it is dated, but we do not yet have a year of these readings to say what normal looks like around a set launch.
Second, the board has been more defensive than this quite recently. Sell Watch hit 915 on 8 August, comfortably above Friday's 791. Friday was a sharp turn, not a record.
What the data shows is a board that stopped issuing conviction calls on singles in the 24 hours before a set landed, while flagging more of them for selling. The plain reading is that cash gets held for boxes in a launch week. We are writing it down now so we can check it against the next one.
What we're watching
- Whether the 26 singles that lost their Buy Setup on Friday get it back once One Piece Day 2026 (22 to 23 August) and the Japanese street date are behind us, or whether they stay off the board into the 28 August English release.
- Whether the OP-17 box discount closes or widens after street date. A discount during pre-release week is one thing. A discount that survives actual supply arriving is another.
- The three sealed survivors, and specifically their listing counts. Those stamps rest entirely on supply contraction. If listings turn back up while price stays flat, the basis for the stamp goes with them.
- Treasure Cup Kissimmee on 29 August, the first major North American event of the OP-17 format.
