Five OP17 Leaders Are Revealed, and OP16's Alt Arts Are Already Feeling It

With five of OP17's six leaders now confirmed and the Aug 28 launch three weeks out, four of OP16's six leader alt arts are down over the past month, two of them enough to trip a SELL WATCH stamp, a pattern the ledger has seen before every set rotation.

Bandai has confirmed five of the six leaders for OP17, The World's Strongest Warriors, through official card reveal videos: Whitebeard in red, Luffy in black, Shanks in green, Kaido in purple, and Big Mom in yellow. The sixth leader is still unconfirmed. The set launches EN on August 28, with pre-release starting August 21, and it's the first fully simultaneous global launch in the game's history.

Three weeks out from that date, OP16's own leader lineup is already showing the kind of softening the ledger tends to see ahead of a rotation.

Monkey.D.Luffy

OP16 · OP16-022

$40.51

Monkey.D.Luffy's alt art leader from OP16 is down 16.0% over 7 days and 29.5% over 30, now trading at A$97.94. It's carrying a SELL WATCH stamp, the system's flag for a card whose momentum has turned decisively negative rather than just drifted.

Marshall D. Teach

Marshall D. Teach

OP16 · OP16-080

$20.24

Marshall D. Teach's alt art is down even more sharply, off 17.1% for the week and 35.3% for the month, now sitting at A$37.86. It's also on SELL WATCH, and between the two of them, Luffy and Teach account for the steepest leader declines in the set.

Portgas D. Ace

Portgas D. Ace

OP16 · OP16-001

$50.61

Portgas D. Ace's alt art has held up better in relative terms, down 9.6% over 7 days and 11.0% over 30, at A$56.58. It's still tagged HOLD rather than SELL WATCH, and it's one of two OP16 leader alt arts the system currently classifies as chase tier, alongside Teach.

Yamato

Yamato

OP16 · OP16-079

$49.20

Yamato's alt art is the steadiest of the group so far, down just 2.3% this week though still off 6.7% for the month, at A$109.77, currently the priciest leader in the set.

Sengoku

Sengoku

OP16 · OP16-060

$12.41

Sengoku's alt art tells a slightly different story. It barely moved this week, down just 1.4%, but it's off 23.9% over the past 30 days, a slower bleed rather than a sudden drop. It sits at A$24.89 and remains on HOLD.

Put together, four of OP16's six leader alt arts are down for the month, and two have crossed into SELL WATCH territory. That lines up with a pattern the ledger has flagged before: as a new set's leaders get revealed and a launch date firms up, demand for the outgoing set's chase cards tends to cool as players and speculators shift attention, and shelf space, toward what's coming next. It happened ahead of OP16 itself, and it looks to be happening again here, earlier than usual, likely because OP17's leader reveals landed well before the set's actual street date this time.

Worth noting: none of this means OP16 leaders are done being playable or collectible. Rotation affects tournament relevance more than it erases a card's appeal, and some of these alt arts, Ace and Yamato especially, have stayed comparatively resilient. The data simply shows where buying pressure is thinning out first.

What we're watching: whether Luffy and Teach keep sliding as the August 21 pre-release approaches, whether Ace and Yamato hold their relative strength, and what the sixth OP17 leader turns out to be once Bandai confirms it. We'll also be watching whether OP16's non-leader staples start showing the same pattern, or whether this rotation dip stays concentrated at the top of the set for now.
