OP17 Adds Two New Rarities. Here Is the OP16 Baseline to Measure It Against.

OP-17 stacks a Treasure Rare and two brand new rarities above Secret Rare. Before the Japanese launch on Saturday, here is what OP16's value curve actually looks like, so we have something honest to compare against in thirty days.

OP-17 The World's Strongest Warriors hits Japanese shelves this Saturday, with the US pre-release the day before and the English wide release on 28 August. Most of the coverage so far has been about the card list. The part worth more attention is the rarity ladder, because that is the thing that changes how value spreads across a set.

Per Bandai's set previews, OP-17 is a 131 plus 4 card set with six leaders, and it introduces two brand new rarities: Super Leader Parallel and Conqueror's Haki Special Card. It also adds a Treasure Rare slot sitting above Secret Rare. On top of that, the four original Yonko all receive Manga Rare treatment. That is a lot of new ceiling stacked onto one release.

Here is the mechanical argument. Every tier you add above Secret Rare makes the pull denominator worse for whatever ends up being the true chase card. It does not add value to the set as a whole. It redistributes it upward. Sets that stack premium tiers tend to concentrate value in two or three cards rather than lift the floor for everything else. That is a claim, and claims are worth measuring, so let us write down the baseline before OP17 arrives instead of after.

What OP16 actually looks like

As of 17 August, the top of The Time of Battle is three Manga Rare admirals sitting almost on top of each other.

Sakazuki

Sakazuki

OP16 · OP16-065

$1,177.87

Sakazuki OP16-065 is the set's most expensive single at A$1,711, on nine recorded sales in the past thirty days and 30-day momentum of about 1%. Kuzan OP16-063 sits just behind at A$1,629, and Borsalino OP16-073 is third at A$1,473. The gap from first place to third is 14%.

Kuzan

OP16 · OP16-063

$1,146.03

Now the part that matters. Those three cards together account for 62.8% of the total value of every OP16 single we track. The median of the set's top twenty cards is A$93. The most expensive card is 18.3 times that median.

How that compares

OP15 Adventure on Kami's Island is led by Enel OP15-118 at A$1,484, with a top-twenty median of A$163. Its top card is 9.1 times its top-twenty median, and its top three hold 45.5% of set value. OP14 The Azure Sea's Seven tops out at A$2,313, with a top-twenty median of A$137, a ratio of 16.9 times, and 50.1% concentration in the top three.

So OP16, the set OP17 is about to replace, is already the most top-heavy of the three by a clear margin. Nearly two thirds of its value lives in three cards.

The number to watch

If the idea that more tiers concentrate value holds up, OP17 should print a top-three concentration above OP16's 62.8% once English pricing settles, and a top-card-to-top-twenty-median ratio north of 18.3. If OP17 instead lands closer to OP15's 45.5% and 9.1 times, then the extra rarity tiers spread demand rather than concentrating it, and the framing needs rethinking.

Worth naming the caveats honestly. Thirty days is short. Early pricing on a brand new set is thin and noisy, and the first fortnight of any release is dominated by pre-orders rather than settled demand. The first fully simultaneous global launch also means Japanese and English price discovery happen in the same week for the first time, which is its own variable. And in a comparison like this, a single unusual listing can move a concentration figure more than it should.

What we're watching

The 30-day mark after the English release on 28 August, when we recalculate the same three figures for OP17 and put them next to this table. Treasure Cup Kissimmee on 29 August, the first major North American event of the new format, which usually tells us which OP17 cards are being played rather than just opened. And whether OP16's admiral trio holds its 62.8% share once a fresh set is competing for the same collector budget.
