A Pair of Cheap OP07 Cards Quietly Multiplied This Month, and the Board Still Says Hold
Otama and the event card We're Going to Claim the One Piece!!! have gone from pocket change to real money in about a month, both still stuck on a HOLD stamp. Here's what the numbers actually show.
Some of the biggest moves on the board this month haven't come from chase alt arts or manga rares. They've come from two of the least glamorous cards in a two-year-old set.
[[card:7010d492-9647-4abf-bea2-5996c7ce50e1]] Otama, the base printing from OP07, was a $0.34 card on July 13. By August 13 it closed at $8.38, a climb of roughly 2,268% over 30 days. This wasn't a single spike either. The price history shows a steady staircase: up to about $3.96 by July 27, holding in the $5 range through early August, then jumping again to $8.38 in the past two days. Thirty-day sales sit at 7,569, so this is a genuinely liquid card, not a handful of outlier sales moving a thin market.
Sitting right next to it is [[card:03c5b16d-fe53-4cc7-a075-80660ab6ab50]] We're Going to Claim the One Piece!!!, an OP07 event card that started the same 30-day window at $1.33 and now sits at $6.84, up 378% over the month and 11% in the past week alone. It's carried 4,157 sales in that window.
Neither has earned anything other than a HOLD stamp. That's not unusual on this board. [[card:33c016c5-326f-4285-b474-a935b00a89be]] Smoker's OP10-030 base printing is up 262% over 30 days and still HOLD. [[card:976143f2-32cc-4b09-ada0-2c6c761e9e08]] Shanks from the ST16 starter deck is up 125% and also HOLD. [[card:071f80e6-c5c9-4848-b835-b87cbd34237a]] Monkey D. Luffy's OP12-015 printing is up 181% over the month and has actually flipped to SELL_WATCH, the algorithm's way of flagging that a run has gone far enough that the next move is as likely to be down as up.
The pattern across all of these is the same one this board keeps producing: a big percentage gain on its own doesn't earn a buy-style stamp. The signals look for the move to hold up over multiple windows, for volatility to settle, and for the sales pace to stay consistent rather than spike and fade. Otama and We're Going to Claim the One Piece!!! have both done the climbing part. Neither has done the settling part yet, which is presumably why the board is treating a 2,268% and a 378% gain the same way it treats a card that hasn't moved at all this week.
Worth noting what these two cards aren't. Neither is a leader, an alt art, or a manga rare. They're a support character and a plain event card from a set that's now three releases behind the current format. That's usually the profile of a card nobody is watching until a deck tech somewhere makes it relevant, and by the time the price catches up the cheap copies are already gone. Whether that's what's happening here or whether this is a narrower, more mechanical bit of demand isn't something the price data alone can answer.
What we're watching: whether Otama and We're Going to Claim the One Piece!!! hold their current levels through the next week without giving most of it back, whether either eventually earns an ACCUMULATE or similar stamp once the move stabilizes, and whether other OP07 commons start showing the same climb, which would point to a genuine archetype shift rather than two cards moving independently.
